This is one of those good news bad news posts, the Y is intersted in expanding into USA Swimming world, mostly they see the success that our competition has and that we can make USA swimming fit into the YMCA ideals. Unfortunatly they want to wait a year before expanding so the goal will be to have Eastside YMCA/USA going by spring of 2013. The plan is to work on getting the USA team going as we start out next season.

The good news is also I will be running a Stroke Mechanics Clinic at the Eastside YMCA, it will run from May 14 through June 20th, it will be on Mondays and Weds, there will be a total of 11 classes. This would be a great opportunity for our midgets, cadets, and even preps. Additionally this clinic will end just before many of the summer seasons begin, for those of you who want your children to get a little head start. Also parents if you know of any kids/families who have some interst in competitive swimming this could be a great bridge!! We are always looking to add new members!

If you have any questions feel free to shoot me an email: nwhiteman831@gmail.com

Thanks!

Good news, I have a job haha, so as a result I am going to get the ball rolling full force for a USA swim team, I am going to meet with the Y on monday, and suggest doing the program as a joint YMCA Eastside/USA team, your children and you will have the option of swimming both YMCA and USA or just YMCA, my idea is to run the the Y season obviously October through March, then the USA Season April through October. I will have more information for you after the weekend.

The reason I believe the YMCA is the way to go is because it will take most of the monetary pressure off of me, I am not looking to make a fortune off of coaching. Also, with the Y's involvement we will have access to a weightlifting facility and I think the "Eastside" name is a team that you and your children believe in, so why change a working equation.

Like I said, before regarding questions about the USA swim season, this will be roughly a 2 hour practice, five days a week, with the option of morning practices (depending on what other coaches are available, which should not be an issue). In regards to the summer swim season, I encourage your children to swim, it is a fun season and your kids enjoy it. But summer swim season is usually only an hour practice, we will be going to meets in Pittsburgh, (I am going to look into Cleveland and Buffalo too) many of the outdoor pools in which we will be racing in will be 50 meters long, 1 hour training four days a week will not prepare your children for the competition.

In the next few days I will have more information for you in regards to joining the team, this part of the program is for more seasoned athletes, primarily because of extensive practices, increased yardage, for those of you who have younger children, the Summer Swim teams is all your kids need, we want them to enjoy swimming for many many years, and the Summer Swim teams offer that and stroke development to young athletes!

In regards to the swim clinic, I am going to also meet with Maxine Lundberg and Dana Foster on Monday to talk about it. I spoke with Chris Rhodes who is the Men's and Women's head Swim Coach at Edinboro University, he said some of his student-athletes would be interested in instructing a swim clinic. I think it would be a great opportunity for your kids to receive some different instructions and I believe it would be a great learning experience for college athletes (in regards to giving back). I believe that with our Eastside season, a stroke clinic, and the Summer Swim season, young swimmers will get a ton of experience!

Feel Free to email me with any questions
